  • April Pride, host : [00:00:00] Hey, it's April Pride, your host here on the High Guide podcast. I'd like to take a moment to remind you that we do discuss cannabis and psychedelics, and this podcast is intended for audiences 21 and over. Also, I am not a medical expert. We do discuss interventions and protocols and you should consult your medical professional before moving forward with anything that we may discuss here on the show. Before we begin, I'd like to thank our show sponsor of like Minds. Check out of like Minds Co That's of like minds mind. Esco To learn more about Seattle's trusted source for psilocybin. Hi and welcome back. In today's episode, we're going to learn about how to identify psychedelic mushrooms. This episode is part one of a three part series, psychedelic psilocybin Mushrooms. We're going to talk identification types of hais and discuss the variety and profound experience these fungi offer. Where I live in Washington State, people want to know how to identify psychedelic mushrooms, because in this part of the world we have spore spreaders. A spore spreader is basically a psychedelic Johnny Appleseed, someone who distributes psilocybin mushroom spores in public places so they'll grow where anyone can harvest them. And in Seattle, where I live, thanks to these spore spreaders, you can find psychedelic mushrooms all over the city. Another fun Pacific Northwest spore spreader. Fact There's a mulch company based in Washington whose founders put spores in the mulch because they want to propagate psilocybin mushrooms throughout the region.

April Pride, host : [00:01:48] Now, if you're in Washington, keep your eyes peeled when you're out and about. That said, the safest way to get shrooms is through an expert who has grown the mushrooms themselves. And with psychedelics becoming legalized in an increasing number of states or decriminalized an increasing number of municipalities like here in Seattle and more and more companies like of like mines are popping up. You don't have to become an amateur mycologist if you want a trip And a quick heads up for our listeners, the recording you're about to listen to has a different sound quality. A psilocybin tolerance can build up over time. And in a future podcast, we'll cover microdosing schedules that have led many women to successful outcomes. Lemon Checking is one way to intensify your mushroom trip. Because citrus acids can amplify the experience, you grind the mushrooms, you put them into a short glass. Add lemon juice, like put them into a shot glass and then add lemon juice. Mix it thoroughly. It sits for 15 minutes and you can even turn this into tea. It's sort of like a lemon mushroom tea. Or you can just add a little bit of water and just take it down in one shot. The mushroom for. Let's talk about duration because mushroom trips can last for a while. The timeline is as follows. Okay. So the effects are typically felt within 30 to 45 minutes and can last between 4 to 8 hours.

April Pride, host : [00:03:16] When consumed in hot liquid, the effects are felt as soon as 15 minutes. That is true. And they come down regardless of how you consume it is 24 to 48 hours. That just means you're going to feel some effects. So if you want to get high again, then you can just smoke some weed the next day and sometimes that'll bring your high back on. You may feel anxious. I typically I think we can be helpful, but some people can make them feel more anxious. So take that into consideration and make sure you don't have anything planned the next day. Give yourself some time and space to rest and integrate your experience. On Friday night last week, I took two grams of I had chocolates and so it was Golden Teacher, which the strain. And I kept my journal out and just like went inward and journaled. And it was maybe one of the best Friday nights I've had in a long time. So I encourage you to do the same. Has all this talk about getting high whet your appetite for a trip? I've got something for that. It's delectable. It's chocolate covered, and it combines the pleasure of dessert with the power of psilocybin. Of like minds. Magic Caramels. The mastermind behind these creations has been crafting cannabis edibles in Seattle for decades, and he believes in the power of variety, which is why we're offering a caramel made with a blend of three awesome psilocybe cubensis varieties, including the legendary Golden Teacher, which I call Fisher Price.

April Pride, host : [00:04:54] My first Magic Mushroom. It's a perfect starting point for beginners and a reliable favorite for seasoned psychonauts. The caramels also include a strain called penis envy. Penis envy is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Golden Teacher. If you've listened to this podcast, we've dedicated episodes to this very potent strain. It's 3 to 4 times more potent and gives the caramels the oomph that makes you really blast off. The last strain in the mix is hillbilly, which falls somewhere in between golden teacher and penis envy. Gentle and chill. You know, when you eat a cannabis edible and you feel it in your body first. It's the same with psilocybin edibles. And here's a hint like with any edible the first time you eat them always take half of what the package tells you. In fact, with our caramels, I advise people to take a third. Set your timer for 45 minutes when it goes off, determine if you're going to take more. A lot of people don't get past maybe a second, third or half of an overall caramel in one fell swoop. Keep that in mind. They're so potent, you don't need to eat a whole one to get a great trip, which means they're perfect for sharing.

April Pride, host : [00:06:09] So whether you're a seasoned psychonaut or just dipping your toes into the world of psychedelics, these chocolate covered psilocybin caramels are a must try. Open yourself up to new possibilities, connect with the medicine in a new way, and savor the flavors that accompany your journey. Ready to take a bite? Visit the Ublic Minds website where you can download our guides to products such as these edibles, which are also gifted with a purchase of our download. If you happen to live in Seattle, of course. Also, please sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media to learn all the ways we're of like minds. Some resources that we recommend. You check out Food of the Gods by Terence McKenna, which explores the human relationship to plants and chemicals over time, which played a crucial role in not only developing species but whole societies and civilizations. While you're at it, listen to the High Guide Episode 33. Integration Number five Take mushrooms and make it happen. This was at the end of last year, and our guests were Livy Smalls, who facilitated an integration with Merrill Montgomery, who is a co-founder of Barberry. And Merrill was manifesting her best year this year. So I encourage you to listen to that. We're not even two months into the to the year. There's still time to dose yourself with love and psychedelics and have your best 2022.

April Pride, host : [00:07:44] Okay. I really wanted to find something great to watch that wasn't a documentary about mushrooms. So if you want to get high and watch something, I would suggest Kiki's delivery service, which is what I did on Halloween. But if you want to learn more about. Psilocybe. Cubensis. I highly, highly recommend Netflix's Fantastic Fungi. A lot of people have recommended this movie and I watched it and it is both super informative and it is surprisingly emotional. I did cry and as we close out this episode, this short bonus episode, I'll leave you with this quote. I am a creator, woman, a star woman, a moon woman, a cross woman, a woman of heaven. I'm a cloud person, a dew on the grass person. And this quote is from Maria Sabina, who is a Mexican healer and shaman who introduced Psilocybe Cubensis to modern culture in the mid 1950s. And she very quickly regretted that decision. You can read more about her. Thanks for listening to this episode. If you're fascinated by psychedelic mushrooms and want to learn more about different species and their unique characteristics, stay tuned for the next two episodes where we spotlight two very different strains of magic mushrooms and check out the show notes for links to past episodes on related topics. Thank you as always for listening to the High Guide podcast and we'll see you next time.

Hi everyone. Today we're devoting the whole show to the connection between weed and sleep. Does it work or does it just make things worse? We're going to review the scientific research about it, bust some myths, and offer a few personal stories from people who have found ways to use cannabis to get some shuteye. The question people often ask is which is better for sleep, CBD or THC? I have a renewed interest in this question, thanks to my dad. He's had trouble sleeping for years and recently he started infusing cannabis flour into oil with his Levo that his daughter, his awesome daughter purchased for him to take right before bed. He's been tinkering with THC and CBD to get the potency right, to get the ratio right. And I think he finally has because lately he started sleeping eight hours a night, because I know that if we can sleep, we can also heal our physical pain, which mean the man is definitely got some talking to him.

April Pride, host : [00:01:45] Feels so different now. He's so easy with everything these days and I feel like he's a new human, you know? He's always been awesome, but something's feels extra special. Awesome. Now I think it can be as simple as getting a good night of sleep, which he just never has. But as I mentioned in the last few episodes about Microdosing cannabis and taking cannabis for pain when you're trying to use cannabis for sleep, it's critical to have both THC and CBD. The THC will immediately put you to sleep, but it's CBD that regulates your sleep wake cycles for a 24 hour period. That's the thing that keeps you asleep through the night and then throughout the next day you don't have a crash at three in the afternoon. The one job that cannabis has is homeostasis, making sure everything is equal. So having both CBD and THC in your system when you're using it for sleep helps to ensure homeostasis so you don't have those fluctuations. And a quick heads up for our listeners, the recording you're about to listen to has a different sound quality. When I consume cannabis before bed, it stops my mind from racing. It shuts it all down. I can hear the ambient details like rain or my dog snoring and my mind is able to wander off to sleep. It's absolute heaven after a lifelong struggle with insomnia. You just heard from Julia Jacobson, the CEO of Sustainable Cannabis Company Aster Farms, out of California. She's a woman who knows how to do the pot and uses it to improve her sleep.

Speaker2: [00:03:25] This is Carrie Solomon. I use CBD every night to help with sleep, and I find that when I consume it as a tincture, it doesn't exactly help me fall asleep, but it gives me a better quality sleep throughout the night. So even if I wake up for some reason I'm able to go back to sleep a little easier. I also consume CBD throughout the day, which just kind of helps with general anxiety and just everyday aches and pains. So sleeping is a little bit easier, but every night 10 to 15mg full spectrum tincture.

April Pride, host : [00:04:00] Thc gets you to sleep, sedates you within a half hour, and CBD keeps you asleep. In addition to stabilizing your sleep patterns at night, CBD is also optimizing your sleep wake cycle throughout the 24 hour period. Okay, It's time to talk about a hot and fascinating topic. How to elevate your psychedelic experience. Psilocybin acts on the serotonin pathway and boosters optimize your experience by stimulating those receptors. These guys get your mind and body in the perfect state to embark on a trip. Boosters also help down regulate you at the end of the trip. Once the serotonin surge has depleted, boosters clear the serotonin transmitters from the pathway, which makes for an easy comedown. Boosters are also nootropics, meaning they improve mental clarity. They can be a big help in staying fully present throughout your journey or microdose regimen. We have a couple of booster supplements to choose from. The first one combats inflammation with the power of four anti-inflammatory spices, cloves, cumin, turmeric and cinnamon. This booster doesn't contain psychoactive ingredients, which means we can ship this guy anywhere in the world, ensuring everyone can have access to its benefits. The second booster does alter you. It combines powdered morning glory, a psychoactive plant with an anti-inflammatory spices in the first booster. Together, they create a truly unique experience. And Morning Glory isn't a controlled substance, which means we can ship this one anywhere too. If you're looking to feel altered but live in a place where psilocybin isn't legal yet, our Morning Glory booster is a fantastic option.

April Pride, host : [00:05:42] If you want to unlock the potential of your psychedelic journey or are looking to dial in your trips, get yourself a booster. They keep your body in balance, prevent inflammation and save you from crashing when the medicine has run its course. Visit the Of Like Minds website to learn more about the power of boosters and to learn all the ways we're of like minds. For today's High five What to Buy for Better Sleep Number one. Julia Jacobson, co-founder of Astor Farms, loves pulling out an eighth of their moonlight effect strain when she's looking for a little assistance with getting to sleep. It's an indica dominant flower that she usually vapes in her packs to. Number two greater goods mint hibiscus, 100mg CBD chocolate bar. It's made with organic fair trade, non-GMO dark chocolate that tastes delicious in fact, and is mood boosting crafted with full spectrum conscientiously cultivated hemp oil. This low fat, good fat chocolate is a great carrier for cannabinoids to incorporate into your system with the potential to last longer by entering deeply into the digestive tract. Ships anywhere. Number three A great THC free option comes to us from kin slips. Love kin slips their shut eye. Sublingual strips go under the tongue for fast absorption and they have five milligrams of CBD and five milligrams of CBN. That's a new cannabinoid that we haven't really discussed, but we may in future episodes. It's a formula created to help you sleep through the night. Number four the nightcap tincture from Juna is a hemp based blend that turns down the volume on racing thoughts.

April Pride, host : [00:07:35] Sound familiar? And invites you into your most restorative sleep. Number five Barberries. Herbal smoking blends are formulated to be mixed with hemp or cannabis and smoked as a spliff so that consumers can have more control over the type of high or effects they experience. Their product Airplane mode. I love it to relax and sometimes I only smoke it and I don't mix weed with it. It features Lavender Rose and Blue Lotus flower, which encourages relaxation and calming of the senses. As you know, we offer strains that we like, and today the strains are going to be all about sleep. Dutch treat cannabis to enjoy the silence. A rush of cerebral, uplifting euphoria. You'll have reduced stress and your body will be relaxed. It's an essential strain of Amsterdam coffee shops. So when we get on airplanes again and we go there, look for it once again. Granddaddy Purp. I mean, it's just it's a good one. And you can usually find it in every state. In fact, it's very popular here on the West Coast. I recommend it for nighttime use. And if if strains were defined, Granddaddy Purp would probably be translated to couch lock, mind free blueberry essence. It is all about bliss and relaxation. It's a high CBD strain, so more calming and relaxing without sluggishness, it relaxes away pain and you start to have a little bit of a body high. It's kind of tingly and you'll level off into a nice induced sleep.

April Pride, host : [00:09:19] So after all that great information about cannabis for sleep, I have one parting reminder If you want to start experimenting with cannabis to help with sleep, it's possible to build up a tolerance for THC. So take the bare minimum of that cannabinoid. Thc disrupts deep sleep, which is a stage just before REM, which is when you dream. Just hemp derived CBD on its own does work for some people to get to sleep. But 30% of people say they don't feel any effect. I'm one of these people, in fact, and if I take CBD before bed, it actually gives me more energy. What it does is it wakes me up at one in the morning almost without fail, and I typically go to bed like sometime between like ten and midnight. But let's say I went to bed at like between 10 and 11. It'll wake me up a couple of hours later. And yeah, that's something about if CBD regulates sleep cycles, it does something to mine at the wrong time. And I'm not alone. So the best bet is to find a product that includes a touch of THC along with CBD. Guess what that means? You have to go to a dispensary. So that's the word on cannabis and sleep. We've got a few related episodes we've linked in the show notes and Sweet Dreams. Thank you as always for listening to the High Guide podcast and we'll see you next time.
